The Hackberry is rated useful in specific circumstances. Although it is a superb caterpillar food source, it does not provide nectar and not all gardens can afford space for a large tree.

Black Cherry is a fast growing tree that is a host plant for a variety of caterpillars. If room is available, it is a great choice for creating butterfly habitat.
